Bob's Story
by Jordan

The story of Bob started back before Christmas. I was trying to find the perfect gift for Dad. He means so much to me and I wanted to show that in a fun way. I knew how much he missed us when he was at work so I wanted to make him smile when he thought of us. I had watched the movie Castaway not too long ago and remembered the volleyball he had treasured more than anything else on the island. I then decided to start hunting for a volleyball.
It was getting close to time now and he was home. I had to find one quickly but every one I found had something about it that just said it wasn't the one. Finally, it was the day before Christmas and I still hadn't found what I was looking for. While walking through the store I spotted the kick balls. I saw the bright colors and was drawn to them. I saw red, blue, green and yellow balls. Pulling one out I wondered if this was the one I had been searching for.
I wanted one that would just scream Dad. He is a very colorful happy person so what better then something brightly colored? I pulled out the blue ball first. Rolling it in my hands I knew it wasn't right. Has so much thought ever gone into a kick ball? I smiled to myself picturing his response. I then pulled out the yellow ball and knew it was the right one. It was a solid bright yellow that you could see a mile away. I said, “this one.” Now I had to figure out how to get it home before Dad found out.
Once home I had my sister distract him while I carried it to my room. I had been planning this for some time. I pulled out my black pen and created a face. I looked at the ball and made sure it was perfect. It had a face but no hair. Dad was nearly bald now so I could put a little hair on it. I then turned it up to see a splash a red on top of it. I knew it would make a great tuft of hair. I smiled and stashed it away for the night.
In the morning when it was time I gave Dad the gift. He opened it and roared with laughter. He pulled the ball out so all could see. I told him where I had gotten the idea from and he loved it. I said now then you have to name him. He said, “Bob.” From then on the yellow ball with a tuft of hair was known as Bob.
He goes with Dad wherever he travels. You can see them from a distance, the photographer and Bob. I later named them, “The Two Bald Guys”, which only adds to his story. This is an entire folder dedicated to Bob and his travels. If you would like to have your picture taken with Bob you can email him at blair_chambers@yahoo.com
